Shirts

Made-to-measure shirts, built on a split yoke, one half for each shoulder, and finished with a double-fused collar. The fit is felt first at the neck, where your measurements count for more than anywhere else.

The white shirt, and what follows

The plainest shirt we make is the one clients ask for most. It is white two-ply cotton. Each thread is twisted from two strands, and the cloth is smoother and longer-lived for it. Next to it, a white dobby looks plain across a dinner table until the light shifts and a small figure comes up in the weave.

Evening shirts are made to a different brief. One has a pleat at the back and a collar built to carry a bow tie. Another closes with black studs and keeps company with the dinner suits in black tie. Oxford, with the faint grid of its basket weave, belongs to weekends and to sleeves rolled back.

Once we have your measurements, from a stylist or from THDR Pocket Tailor, they stay on file. A second shirt is then only a question of cloth. Shirting books sit in the library beside the suiting, among them Alumo, a Swiss house that has been weaving since 1918 and is known for its two-fold cotton. Initials at the cuff come with our compliments.
