Jorge Carli
Warm-weather suiting and linen blends
Jorge Carli is a cloth label, registered in Britain, rather than a mill with a valley and a founding date behind it, and we would rather say so than borrow a history for it. It keeps good company all the same: in made-to-measure books in the United States and Asia it often sits beside houses such as Vitale Barberis Canonico. It has a strong line in warm-weather suiting, linen blends and stretch wool.
That is how it earned its place with us. The Bombay Blue Linen Blend Suit is cut from a Jorge Carli blend of wool, linen and silk: the wool keeps the structure, the linen brings texture and air, and the silk softens the hand. The cloth breathes on a hot day and resists the deep creasing of pure linen, which is what a Sydney summer asks of a suit.
In the Everyday Archive, Jorge Carli wool gives the Burgundy Wool Jacket its body: a 290-gram stretch wool in deep burgundy, cut unstructured so that it moves with you. The White Jorge Carli Wool Trousers are cut from a 280-gram white wool that is opaque where white cotton is not, and that hangs where cotton clings.
Every garment is made to measure. The Jorge Carli selection turns with the seasons, so ask to see the current lengths at your fitting, and take the pale ones to the window, since white wool and linen are best judged in daylight.
