Bangkok merchant of fine Italian suiting

Medici trades cloth from Bangkok, and its book leans heavily Italian. Alongside a house line of pinstripes and checks for men's formal wear, it distributes collections from houses such as Guabello and Reda 1865, both names clients may recognise from elsewhere in this library.

A merchant like Medici earns its shelf space through judgement. Others do the weaving and Medici does the choosing, so what reaches us has already been sorted once, by people whose living depends on picking well.

Medici sits in the part of our library that turns over. Lengths arrive, are cut and give way to new ones, so the bunch you see at one fitting may be gone by the next, and the shelf never has time to go stale.

None of our named garments is cut from Medici cloth at present. These lengths tend to go into single commissions instead: a pinstripe nobody else ordered, or a check that suits exactly one client. If the name is on the shelf when you visit, ask to see what has come in.

The current book is best seen in person, laid over a shoulder in daylight.
