Wool with a little silk and camel hair, dyed a deep burgundy and woven at 320 grams to the metre, so these are trousers for the cold half of the year. The silk gives the surface a low sheen in daylight; the camel hair softens the hand; a touch of spandex lets the knee move.
A single pleat folds toward the side seam, 2 cm deep, which gives the thigh room without a full-cut look. The waistband is 4 cm, closing on a hook with no extension, and the back pockets are welted with a button. Front pockets sit on a 3.2 cm slant; the hem is finished at 5 cm. Burgundy wears well over brown shoes and under grey or navy. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
