Brown wool flannel, 300 grams to the metre, a cloth with some warmth and weight behind it, meant for autumn and winter. The brown is a warm one, and it sits easily with cream, grey and navy.
A dress trouser at the front and an easier one at the back. Double pleats fold toward the side seam, 2 cm deep, under a 5 cm waistband that closes on a hook with no extension, with a metal zip behind a straight fly. Across the back the waistband is elasticated, so it gives when you sit, and there are no belt loops. Front pockets slant at 3.2 cm, the back pockets are double besom with a button, the fronts are lined, and the hem is a plain 5 cm. Wear them with a knit and loafers. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
