Dino Filarte

Fine merino worsteds and linen blends

By the label's own account, Dino Filarte takes its design from Milan, where it keeps a design and development centre staffed by Italian fabric designers and specialists in dyeing and finishing.

The label is known for fine worsted suiting in Australian merino, including a line of everyday essentials. The pure wool suitings run from Super 110s up to Super 180s, and the blends bring in silk, cashmere and linen. The yarn is compact spun, which makes it smoother and stronger than ordinary worsted yarn, and some qualities are finished for a natural stretch that comes from the wool itself.

The label's parent group makes the cloth at its own works, from wool tops through dyeing, spinning and weaving to finishing. Holding every stage, from combed fibre to finished bolt, is what keeps the cloth consistent from one length to the next.

We know the cloth best by how it behaves. Dino Filarte suiting has a light hand that still takes structure, which is what an Australian summer asks of tailoring, and pinstripes are where we use it most. The Greenwich Pinstripe Suit and the Wall Street Charcoal Pinstripe Suit are both cut from it, and a stripe is an unforgiving test: it shows every lazy seam and any give in the weave. The Blue Linen Blend Jacket is cut from a wool, silk and linen blend that keeps linen's dry texture while holding its shape.

All three are made to measure. If a pinstripe is on your mind, begin with the Dino Filarte lengths at your fitting.
