White poplin. A tight plain weave with a fine crossways rib, smooth and crisp to the touch; it presses to a clean finish and keeps it through the day, which is why poplin has stayed the default cloth for a proper white shirt.

Machine-wash cold on a gentle cycle, hang to dry, iron while slightly damp. Skip the dryer — it ages cloth faster than wearing does.
