Most grooms arrive knowing they want something special and not knowing what. The quickest way through it is to start with the venue, because the venue decides most of the decisions you are worried about.
Three settings cover the majority of Australian weddings.
Black tie
A black tie wedding is the most formal thing you will ever dress for, and it usually happens in a cathedral, a grand ballroom or a historic house. The rules are tight, which is good news: there are fewer decisions and each one matters.
What to get right is the detail. Satin lapels. A properly tailored tuxedo shirt rather than a dress shirt pressed into service. A silk bow tie, tied by you. A tuxedo flatters almost everyone, and it takes a bolder interpretation better than people expect, so you do not have to choose between correct and interesting.

A beach ceremony
Here the enemy is heat and the goal is looking deliberate rather than casual. Linen blends do the work, and a well draped bamboo shirt handles the humidity better than cotton. Loafers, not dress shoes.
How far you take it is yours: fully buttoned and formal, or an open shirt and no tie. Either reads correctly on sand. What will not work is a heavy suit and a stiff collar, and every photograph will show it.

An estate or a vineyard
This is the setting where colour earns its place. Rich tones work: royal blues, emerald greens, rust browns. The reasoning is practical as much as aesthetic, because you want to complement the surroundings while still standing out from all that green in the photographs.
Finish it properly. Classic leather dress shoes or boots, a silk tie, and a boutonniere. That combination sits exactly between rustic and polished, which is what an estate wedding is.

What the process looks like
Our stylists work through this with you across the consultation, taking your own personality and the specifics of the day and turning them into a set of decisions. Bring photographs of the venue to the first appointment. It is the single most useful thing you can do, and it is usually what settles the colour question.
