Wide, and finished properly: blue wool trousers at 330 grams to the metre. Double pleats toward the side seam, 4.4 cm deep, a 5.1 cm turn-up, and a front that is half-lined with the pocket bags outside the lining, so the wool slides over the leg rather than gripping it.
Besom front pockets sit in the seam, the back pockets are besom with a tab and button, the fly is straight, and the back of the waist carries a V split for later alteration. A true blue, brighter than navy, in a winter weight. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
