Dark brown gilet in a plain cotton at 206 grams to the metre, a light layer in a colour deep enough to read as smart. Brown cotton over a white or blue shirt, with the archive's khaki or cream trousers, is a warm-weather outfit with a waist to it.
No chest canvas, an unpadded natural shoulder and a 2.5 cm stitched hem, so it sits close and light. Worn under a jacket in the cooler months, it adds a layer without bulk. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
