Plain grey polyester at 235 grams to the metre, chosen for how it behaves rather than how it feels: it does not crease, does not fade, and dries in an hour. The grey is a clean mid tone that goes under anything.
The waist is elasticated across a 4 cm band and still closes on a button, so the trousers sit right without a belt and take one if you like. Flat front, straight fly, front pockets slanted at 3.2 cm, besom back pockets with a button, and a 5 cm hem. Trousers for the days that start with a flight. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
