Cut flat and plain in heavy stretch cotton from Vercelli, 320 grams to the metre, these ivory trousers have front pockets slanted at 3.2 cm, a welted watch pocket on the right, a straight fly. The weight of the cotton is what makes an ivory trouser opaque and lets it hang straight.
With Lycra in the cloth the knee and seat recover after a day of sitting. Ivory is white without the glare, at home with navy, olive and tan. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
