Olive herringbone wool at 385 grams to the metre, an army green in a cloth heavy enough for the coldest weeks. The herringbone gives the wool a diagonal grain that reads as texture in daylight, and the weight lets the wide cut hang as it should.
The cut is the high, full one: a 6 cm waistband with a rounded front closing on two buttons and a hook, a single pleat toward the side seam 4.4 cm deep, and a 5.1 cm turn-up. Straight fly. Trousers for a tweed jacket and a heavy shoe. Cut to your measurements.
