White trousers with a fine stripe in a linen and silk cloth, 199 grams to the metre. The silk takes the dryness out of the linen and gives the white a faint lustre; the stripe stops it reading as a blank. Light, cool trousers for the hottest part of the year.
A single pleat toward the side seam, 1.5 cm deep, a narrow 3.5 cm waistband with a rounded front that closes on two hooks, and a V split at the back of the waist for later alteration. Two open back pockets, a straight fly and a 3.8 cm turn-up. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
