Vitale Barberis Canonico brown wool at 270 grams to the metre, cut with a waistband that few trousers have: a one-piece folded 5 cm band with 5 cm of elastic across the back only. From the front it is a clean, tailored waistband on a hook; from behind it gives, so the trousers stay put after lunch.
Double pleats toward the side seam, 2 cm deep, front pockets slanted at 3.2 cm, besom back pockets with a button and a metal zip. A three-season brown in a cloth from one of the great Biella houses. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
