Stretch wool in khaki, 320 grams to the metre, cut the way the cotton trousers in the archive are cut: flat front, no pressed crease, a metal zip behind a straight fly. The result is a wool trouser that dresses down, with the fall and the recovery that cotton never quite manages.
A single-button waistband with no extension, front pockets slanted at 3.2 cm, besom back pockets with a button and a fixed hem topstitched at 2 cm. Khaki wool for a knit and a suede shoe. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
