White wool from Nobility at 275 grams to the metre, cut with one deep box pleat at the centre of each front. The box pleat, 3.2 cm, gives the thigh real room and keeps the front symmetrical, so the trousers hang like a column rather than a taper. In white wool that column is the whole point.
An extended waistband closes on a button with no further extension, the fly is straight, the hem finishes in a 3.8 cm turn-up, and there are two open back pockets. A trouser for an occasion, or for a blue linen jacket in summer. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
