Black jacquard jacket in a polyester and wool cloth with cannetille at 300 grams to the metre: a figured weave whose pattern shows in the light and reads as plain black across a room. A two-button front with a half canvas and side vents. The evening jacket for anyone who finds a dinner jacket one step too far.
Over black trousers with an open white shirt, or over a black roll neck. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
