Grey corduroy in cotton with 2% spandex, 310 to 320 grams to the metre, so these are trousers for the cooler months. The spandex gives the cloth a little stretch through the seat and knee, and the corduroy gives the grey a ribbed surface with some depth to it. The grey is a slate tone with a faintly cool cast, easy beside navy, white and black.
A single box pleat each side gives room through the thigh. The waistband is cut in one with the trouser rather than sewn on, and there are no belt loops, so the waist sits clean. The fly closes on buttons. Front pockets slant at 3.2 cm, and the back pockets sit under pointed flaps, each buttoned through a keyhole buttonhole. The trousers are unlined. Wear them with a roll-neck or a flannel shirt and brown boots. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
