A black check on a fine stretch nylon, 174 grams to the metre, which is a summer weight with the resilience of a technical cloth. The check is quiet at arm's length and reads as texture rather than pattern from across a room, so these dress down as easily as plain black trousers.
Flat front, no pressed crease, front pockets on a 2.5 cm slant and welted back pockets without a button. The waistband is 4 cm and closes on a hook, with no extension. Light trousers for hot weather that still look like trousers. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
