Blue wool trousers in a plain worsted at 275 grams to the metre, a weight that works for most of the year in most of Australia. The blue is a true one, brighter than navy, and reads well against grey, cream and white.
These take the wider, higher line: double pleats toward the side seam, 2 cm deep, a 6 cm waistband, and back pockets covered by a wide diamond-shaped flap. Straight fly. A trouser with some presence, best worn with the jacket left open. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
