Heavy wool at 375 grams to the metre in a coffee brown check, cut as a casual jacket: a tonal check in a cloth with the weight of a winter tweed. The back is plain, with no vent and no centre seam, so the check runs unbroken.
No chest canvas and an unpadded natural shoulder, so a heavy cloth wears soft. A jacket that does the work of a coat on a dry, cold day, over a roll neck and flannels. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
