The dinner suit and its company
Most of the choosing happens with the suit, in the weave of its cloth and the cut of its lapel, shawl or peak. The dress shirt beneath fastens with studs and turns back at the cuff for links. At the waist, a tuxedo cummerbund in pleated black silk covers the join between shirt and trouser. It is made to your waist measurement and closes with a hook.
A bow tie should be tied by the man wearing it. One evening in front of a mirror is enough to learn how. Late in the night, once the speeches are done, a self-tied bow can be left hanging open and still look right. Shoes are black patent. Cufflinks are the one place the code leaves room for personality, and at the studio they sit on the mantel, to be tried against a cuff.
Allow about six weeks for the suit, and count back from the date on the card. Your first fitting can be at the studio or with us on tour.
