Grey linen trousers at 190 grams to the metre, which is light even for linen. Grey takes the beach out of linen and makes it a city cloth: with a white shirt and a navy jacket it is the coolest way through a summer working day.
A single pleat toward the side seam, 1.5 cm deep, front pockets slanted at 3.2 cm, a welted watch pocket on the right and a straight fly. Linen creases; in grey the creases read as texture. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
