Black linen trousers with a fine stripe, 209 grams to the metre. Black linen is the evening version of the summer trouser: cool to wear, and the stripe and the natural slub of the fibre keep it from looking flat under lights. Wear with a white shirt and nothing else needs deciding.
Double pleats toward the side seam, 2 cm deep, under a wide 5 cm waistband. The front is half-lined with the pocket bags outside the lining, which is what lets linen trousers slide on and hang cleanly. Front pockets slanted at 3.2 cm, two open back pockets, straight fly. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
