Brown corduroy in cotton with 2% spandex, 310 to 320 grams to the metre: a soft, warm cloth for autumn and winter, with a little give in it. The brown is a dark chocolate, deep enough to stand in for navy or charcoal, and good beside cream, olive and pale blue.
Double pleats fold toward the side seam, 4.4 cm deep, for a full front and real room through the thigh. The fly is straight. A single belt loop sits at the right front of the waist, and there are no others. The back pockets sit under semi-pointed flaps, each closing on a button, and the inside of the waistband is faced in the same corduroy and edged with lining piping. Wear them with a heavy knit or an oxford shirt and suede shoes. Cut to your measurements.

Steam rather than wash, and press under a cloth. Rest it a day between wears on a shaped hanger. Dry-clean sparingly; once or twice a season is plenty.
